SET DESIGN by Alexander Galant

Secret Annex Thumbnail Reference photos of the real Anne Frank House were used to design the set, although some alterations were made and placement of floors were changed for staging reasons.

Click here to see a floor plan of the building of where the Secret Annex was located.  (The colour section was the area in which they hid).
Anne Frank Set

Photo Stills at the Bathurst Street Theatre.

The real Anne Frank Room
Anne's real room (left) was duplicated in our set.  (Right) For lighting reasons we didn't cover the windows with the tissue paper.

The pictures on the wall are the pictures that are still currently hanging in her room.
Even the desk lamp was duplicated for our set.

Our Anne Frank Room
The real common room
On the left is the real common room for the eight people in hiding.
On the right is our set.

The door visible leads to Peter's room - which was also the access to the attic.  Such is the case with our set.

Our Common Room Set
The real W/C
On the left is the real W/C (Water Closet) from the Anne Frank House. The visible green door led to Anne's room. (see above pic)

Likewise our set has the W/C in the exact same layout.   This has a dual purpose... but won't spoil it here....

Real Anne Frank Stove

On the left is what remains of the stove where the people in hiding had to burn all evidence of their existence.

On the right is the one built for the Toronto production.

Wooden Menorah
To the left is the wooden menorah on display at the Anne Frank House.

Likewise our Mr. Van Daan carves an exact replica in our production.

Anne Fank House Sink
The main room had been the laboratory.  Which is why the sink was so odd.
It's a small attention to detail but those who have been to the Anne Frank house have already commented on this.

Anne Frank Sink Replica
Opekta Boxes
Opekta was the brand of pectin that Otto Frank's company manufactured.  A year before going into hiding Otto began stocking the attic with their belongings and supplies.

At the top of the show the set has some replicas scattered around.
